Making a Difference: AmeriCorps VISTA
As part of our work to expand the capacity of our member organizations and end housing instability in Illinois, Housing Action Illinois manages a network of 24 AmeriCorps VISTAs placed with our member organizations throughout the state.
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed specifically to end poverty, and our VISTA members commit to serve our communities full-time for a year. They fill a wide variety of roles, but all are aimed at ending poverty and helping communities by expanding and improving the availability of decent, affordable, accessible housing in Illinois. We’re still recruiting for an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader. All of our other VISTA positions have been filled at this time. Check back soon for new openings!
At the moment, we have 24 full-year VISTAs in our 2017 – 2018 cohort, all of whom are working to alleviate poverty with our partner organizations. We’re very proud of our current and past VISTAs, and we can go on and on about their accomplishments if you’ll let us.
In 2017, we launched a new program to place Summer Associates with our member organizations throughout Chicago and Illinois for 10 weeks.
