After multiple campaigns over the course of almost 20 years, we finally helped pass state legislation creating source of income (SOI) fair housing protections. SOI discrimination is when someone is denied the opportunity to even apply for rental housing simply because they will pay rent with non-wage income, such as rental subsidies, social security, retirement income, and public assistance.
