Support Our Work

Let’s create an Illinois where everyone has a good, affordable place to call home.

Housing Action Illinois has been leading the movement for affordable housing in our state for more than 35 years. We unite organizations and individuals who want to create an Illinois where everyone has a good place to call home. With your support, we can cultivate vibrant, thriving communities with expanded housing opportunities throughout our state.

Your contribution makes it possible for us to continue:

  • Advocating for public policies and investments that expand affordable housing & end homelessness in Illinois
  • Training staff on the front lines of housing nonprofits so they can expand their skills, keep up to date on rapidly shifting issues and guidelines, and better serve our communities
  • Educating key decision-makers, media, and advocates about affordable housing issues affecting Illinois

Join us in celebrating our past achievements—and building a brighter future—by making a contribution of $35 or more in honor of our incorporation more than 35 years ago.

Annual Benefit

We’re excited to return to an in-person benefit for our 8th Annual Toast to Housing Justice! We hope you’ll save the date for Thursday, April 18, 2023. Join us at Catalyst Ranch (656 W. Randolph St., Chicago, IL 60661) as we celebrate housing justice. Tickets will be available to purchase in February 2024.

In 2017, we held our first Toast to Housing Justice to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Since then, Housing Action Illinois has brought housing champions together each year at our annual benefit. We held our previous benefits online in 2020, 2021, and 2022 due to COVID-19. In 2023, we returned to in-person celebrations.

We look forward to seeing everyone in person again in 2024. Thanks to all who have joined us over the years!

We accept in-kind donations of goods and services. Your business can donate a gift card or certificate—or any item you think might work—to Housing Action as a raffle prize or silent auction item for our annual benefit. Email development@housingactionil.org for more information.

Donor Advised Funds

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a simple way to manage your charitable giving and support our work by recommending gifts to Housing Action Illinois. DAFs can be established at many financial institutions or community foundations.

Generally speaking, contributions or grants from a DAF can be made to one or more charitable organizations, and the donor may receive benefits including a federal tax deduction. We always recommend that you consult your professional tax advisor to learn how a DAF might impact you specifically.

If you do choose to make a gift to Housing Action through a DAF, please let us know so that we can thank you for your support and commitment to affordable housing in Illinois.

You can also choose to have any remaining DAF funds distributed to Housing Action after your lifetime by naming us as a beneficiary of all or a portion of remaining funds. If you choose to do so, please identify us using our official name, Housing Action Illinois, and our federal tax identification number, which is 36-3585238.

Planned Giving

You can make a planned gift to Housing Action Illinois in many ways. The most common planned gifts are made through wills, trusts, retirement accounts, life insurance policies, or gift annuities. Many of these gifts provide tax benefits to the donor, and we recommend that you consult with your legal advisor to determine what’s best for you.

Including Housing Action Illinois in your will or trust is a meaningful way to help us continue working to create an Illinois where everyone has a good, affordable home. You can make a gift through your will or trust by:

  • Giving a specific dollar amount or asset
  • Designating a percentage of your estate to be given through your will or living trust
  • Giving only the remainder, or residue, of your estate, or that which remains after bequests to loved ones have been made

The simplest way to make a planned gift is to make an outright bequest. For example, an outright bequest to Housing Action could state: “I give and bequeath to Housing Action Illinois, a not-for-profit corporation, presently located at 67 E. Madison St., Ste. 1603, Chicago, IL 60603, the sum of ______.”

If you have included Housing Action in a bequest or other planned gift, we hope you will let us know. We acknowledge and respect those who wish to remain anonymous, and letting us know of your plans on a confidential basis allows us to plan for the future.
