On March 9, we held a webinar where we provided an overview of the key advocacy initiatives we’re currently working on, including advocating against the massive state budget cuts to human service programs proposed by Governor Bruce Rauner that will negatively impact efforts to end homelessness and create affordable housing.

Other issues that we briefly covered were:

  • State legislation to create reverse mortgage protections for senior citizens.
  • State legislation to protect people against municipal ordinances that put tenants at-risk of eviction if they call the police when they need help.
  • Planning for Illinois’ first allocation of funds for the National Housing Trust Fund in 2016.
  • Federal budget advocacy on programs, such as Housing Choice Vouchers and McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Grants.
