HUD Certification

COVID-19 UPDATE:

Due to the virus, some testing centers are closed; check closures and availability for Kryterion test centers here.

We will update this page and share word with our networks if any extension is announced, but as of now (June 30, 2020), the individual certification deadline is still set for August 1, 2020.

On July 10, 2020, led by U.S. Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.), a group of Senators sent a letter to Secretary of HUD Ben Carson urging a deadline extension. You can view the letter here.

August 2020 is almost here.

As of August 1, 2020, all housing counseling provided in connection with HUD programs must be provided by HUD certified housing counselors. To become certified, you need to take the HUD Housing Counseling certification exam.

Studying for this test can be stressful—but it doesn’t have to be! We’re here to support housing counselors and housing counseling agencies prepare for this shift in the housing counseling industry.

I just wanted to let you know that I passed my exam today. Thank you and Housing Action Illinois for the webinars. They were my saving grace.

The study group was indispensable in so many ways!! Your advice was spot on and I fully utilized both the assessment and pre-test to gauge progress.

“I had taken the test once and didn’t pass and was actually very upset and disappointed that I didn’t pass, especially since I had been counseling for over 9 years. I was determined, and after searching the web and other webinars, I found your study group recordings…after studying at least 1-2 hours every other day using your slides, videos and the HUD exam training website – I was able to pass the exam yesterday.”
Jessie

I passed the HUD exam last Friday. Your webinar, practice questions and study tips really helped me. Thanks so much!
