Cheryll Boswell has been the Executive Director of METEC-Housing Counseling Resource Center since May 2005. Before joining METEC full-time, Ms. Boswell worked as a volunteer conducting credit and money management seminars to address the predatory lending problems in the local community. Ms. Boswell is a champion for making homeownership more affordable for families in Central Illinois. METEC’s down payment assistance program, the Home Buying Made Easy, and the Homeownership Assistance and Rehabilitation Program (HAR), were created to help address the need for safe, decent, affordable housing, and the need for financial education regarding homeownership. Both programs work with low income families and families with disabilities in seven counties including Peoria County. The Home Buying Made Easy program, along with financial education, has put $9 million dollars in home sales back into the communities for low-income families in Central Illinois. To further expand the financial capabilities platform, METEC started the Central Illinois Asset Building Coalition that works with other nonprofits, and financial institutions to provide free tax preparation while expanding banking relations for low-income families. Ms. Boswell holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and completed additional graduate coursework in business administration. Recent honors include the 25 Women in Leadership Award and the Dr. Martin Luther King Commemorative Service Leadership Award.
