Chicago is at a crossroads. As our City officials boast about the booming economic development along the riverfront, the transformation of industrial corridors, a new police and fire training academy, and positioning Chicago as a welcoming center for the tech industry to make Chicago their second home, communities across Chicago, particularly in the west and south sides, have not benefited from these priorities. In gentrifying communities, low-income families are being displaced as a result of rising housing costs. Many communities have endured decades of divestment, resulting in poverty, trauma, and violence.
Join the second annual Gathering of Communities to share your experience with housing in the city of Chicago and demand that elected officials invest resources to keep families in the city.
Communities United and a coalition of other community groups will organize more than 500 Chicago residents from across the city to learn and share challenges facing families to stay in the city, and develop strategies to advance collective demands that prioritize investment in communities.
