Scott Tankersley

Scott Tankersley began his year as the Communications and Resource Development VISTA with Housing Action Illinois in 2016. He is from Peoria, IL and attended John Jay College (New York, New York) where he studied Behavior and Social Control with a focus in Individual and Group Identities and Inequality. His interest in housing justice began while working as a Constituent Services Liaison for New York State Assemblymember Victor Pichardo in the West Bronx (District #86) where he assisted members of the community through  various complex housing issues. Later, he worked with the Metropolitan Council on Housing as a Housing Justice Intern where he organized members of the Inwood and Washington Heights communities to combat the city’s newest rezoning initiatives in order to preserve the area’s affordable housing stock.

Scott recently relocated from New York City, where he was volunteering much of his time to eviction prevention by teaching Tenants’ Rights workshops at Legal Hand in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

Scott is passionate about making safe, decent, affordable housing a reality for all Illinoisans.
